On March 12 the Lords debated the Dresden bombing with particular reference to the 70th anniversary commemorations held in the city in February. In his speech Alistair Lexden considered both the tragic events of 1945 and the city’s subsequent reconstruction which has been assisted so notably by the Dresden Trust established in this country to promote reconciliation. He applauded the Trust’s continuing success seen, for example, in its Dresden Scholars’ Scheme.
