On February 9, Lord Lexden addressed a group of over 50 students from a school in Barnet after they had toured both Houses of Parliament. He spoke about the work of the Lords, the implications of continuing constitutional change in the United Kingdom and the approaching election. Questions came thick and fast on these issues and about aspects of the history of the Conservative Party.
The teacher at the school who arranged the meeting wrote afterwards about its success. He said: ‘staff and students alike loved your responses and the quality and calibre of your speech. One student commented afterwards: “he is an example of why the upper house should keep its life peers”’.
