As a historian, Alistair Lexden devotes much time to thinking and writing about the past, but he does not neglect the future. He is a Patron of the Institute of Digital Democracy, and contributed a foreword to its report on online voting, published on November 6. The report suggests that online voting would increase turnout at elections to 79 per cent; those under 50 are strongly in favour of it.
In his foreword, Alistair Lexden wrote: “Online voting would enable British citizens overseas, our brave Armed Forces, and our citizens with disabilities to participate fully and easily in our democracy. As can be seen from the survey data in this report, it is a reform which would be popular amongst our younger generations above all—and they are our future.”
