Lord Lexden has been appointed a member of an important Lords Committee on EU social policies and consumer protection.
He attended his first meeting on November 10. Currently, the Committee's principal item of work is a detailed inquiry into the modernisation of higher education in EU member countries.
After his first meeting, Lord Lexden said: "I am looking forward immensely to contributing as fully as I can to the work of this Committee alongside my fellow members drawn from all parts of the House. I hope the report that we shall be producing on the development of higher education in member countries, and on how the EU institutions could contribute to the process of modernisation, will help advance policy-making in this vital area. With higher education in Britain at a major turning-point, the inquiry is particularly well-timed".
