“Alistair Cooke, in revising Sir Charles Petrie’s classic 1955 work, and bringing the story up to the present day, has created a compelling narrative history of this slice of clubland, as well as the Conservative Party over nearly two centuries.”

“Cooke is an elegant and witty writer. He includes much amusing information.”
Andrew Gimson, The Daily Telegraph
