In his capacity as President of the Independent Schools Association (ISA)—which works on behalf of the heads of 370 independent schools—Alistair Lexden had the pleasure of formally installing the Association’s Chair for 2015-16, Dr Sarah Welch, at the House of Lords on September 2.
Dr Welch, pictured wearing her chain of office, is Principal of Gosfield School, a co-ed near Halstead in Essex (not far from Lexden) which has some 210 pupils between the ages of four and eighteen.
In her inaugural message to the Association, Dr Welch said: “Independent schools come in many shapes and sizes, catering for children from a wide range of social and ethnic backgrounds and academic abilities. During my tenure as Chair of ISA,I will continue to focus on the diversity of our schools”.
The President is focusing on it too in speeches in the Lords.
