It is a little known fact that the Privy Council, the Queen’s formal body of advsiers, has increased massively in size during recent years. Research by Alistair Lexden, published in The Times on May 15, shows that since the 2010 election 110 new members have been appointed, taking the total to 664. Over the period since May 1997 when the total stood at 423 there has been an increase of no less than 57 per cent. The entire body meets on the accession of a new monarch. The Albert Hall may be needed when a new reign begins.
