Alistair Lexden is one of a number of people in public life who are demanding an independent inquiry into Operation Conifer which ended last year in a highly unsatisfactory state with the Wiltshire police suggesting that a handful of allegations of child sex abuse against Heath might have had some substance.
He pressed again for a government inquiry in an oral question in the Lords on July 12. The evasive replies he received were widely deplored by fellow peers who took part in the short discussion. Indeed, the mood in the House was strongly critical of the government.
