At the end of January (see below) Alistair Lexden raised the serious case of Bishop George Bell in the Lords. One of the most distinguished and admired bishops in the history of the Anglican Church, Bell , who died 58 years ago, was found to have been guilty of child sexual abuse by the Church after a secret process of investigation into a single, uncorroborated allegation which was completed last October.
The evidence against him is therefore unknown and untested; natural justice has been denied him. Alistair Lexden returned to the Church’s wholly unsatisfactory conduct of the matter at question time in the Lords on March 14.
